Meet Courtney Petrin of Savannah’s Home and Design | The Sarasota Moms

We sat down with a well-known local mom, Courtney Petrin, of Savannah’s Home and Design to learn more about her passion for home design and motherhood.

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

1 child-a girl named Savannah, Age 4. Our business is named after her.

Oh – ‘Savannah’s’ Home and Design – Such a great idea!

What do you love about living in the Sarasota area?

The beaches, the people, the social life and family friendly atmosphere. Numerous great parks. There is so much opportunity here.

What’s your favorite restaurant and place to shop in Sarasota?

Boca and Jpan for dining out and for shopping I love Marmalade Salon & Boutique and Pineapple Lain Boutique.

Tell us about your career.

I started out in the psychology field. I have a masters degree in clinical psychology. I made my way up and eventually became a program director. When we became pregnant our priorities shifted. We became very focused on home and family. Carlin (my husband) and I always shared a passion for home renovation and design as he was in the field since we met. We decided it was time to make good on our promise to move to Florida and our business together to allow us to work together and have more freedom. We started literally from the ground up here. We didn’t know anyone and built a reputation with lots of hard work and dedication. We have since been in numerous publications-including being voted Best of Sarasota by SRQ magazine.

What do you love about your career?

I love that I can blend my two passions; home design and family. I love the freedom and creative expression. I love being a business owner and being self reliant. I also love creating these monumental changes in people’s lives through their home. It changes how they experience their lives and how they can interact as a family. It’s a beautiful blend of our own values that we can share with people through creativity.

What are some of your hobbies?

Beach, biking, reading and movies.

How do you juggle work and motherhood?

I think it’s a constant practice. It’s something you have to work at and be willing to find balance in. I also bring the two together and we include Savannah in our work whether she’s shopping with us, picking up materials or making site visits. It’s not easy but it’s important to me that I have this precious time with our daughter.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received from another mom?

To not sacrifice self care. It’s so important especially for mothers to fill our cup.  Exercise, eating well and taking time for ourselves is as important as all the endless tasks we have. It’s impossible to show up for your children or family when you are not investing in yourself.

Such great advice that we ‘moms’ need to hear repeatedly, ‘take time for yourself’.  Thank you for sharing today, we love the work that you are doing.  You are a great example of entrepreneur and mom!
